May came and went so quickly – it feels like just yesterday that I was doing my April Fairyloot Unboxing but here we are and here’s another box to crack open! So let’s crack on and see what goodies we have in FairyLoot’s May Unlikely Romances Box!
First up we have something a bit unexpected – a tin of mints! For fresh minty kisses? Who knows! The quote on the top is very on brand for 2013 era me but a bit cringe for my 2019 year old self. The mints are deliciously minty and just suspiciously shaped enough that I think I’ll be leaving them at home!
Another delicious vegan soy candle followed. I love the soft clean smell of it, even if I’m what you would call “the opposite of a fan” of The Court of Thorns and Roses series. I suppose I can enjoy setting them on fire.
I love the magnetic bookmarks that FairyLoot have done in the past, and these are no exception. My Drogon and Daenerys (the poor dears) have done some hard miles and are still going strong with just one small book tear between them, so I was very excited to get some more! I’m not a huge fan of The Wrath and the Dawn or The Flame in the Mist but they’re cute in their own right.
Possibly my favourite item is our dashing, darling, devious Cardan’s crown from Holly Black’s The Folk of the Air series. Fairyloot have dished out some very impractical key rings in the past but this one really takes the (fairy) cake for both splendour and impracticality. The crown reads Kiss Me Until I’m Sick of It around it’s band. Sigh.

Next up some more beautiful stationary! This time it is a beautiful floral note pad with a quote from Natasha Ngan’s Girls of Paper and Fire, a previous FairyLoot inclusion. This will be coming to work with me!
Instead of disappearing, she makes me feel reappeared. Re-imagined.

Something unexpected but nonetheless appreciated was this Daughter of Smoke and Bone pencil/make up bag. It has a beautiful cursive and floral theme with feathered wings poking out here and there. The inside is soooo soft and it’s the perfect size for my Harry Potter make up brushes! The text reads:
Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love. It did not end well.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Lani Taylor
So many good quotes this month!
Some extra little goodies in this box include what I assume is a Malec Shadowhunters sticker and a flyer for Romanov by Nadine Brandes– which I reviewed a while back and while it wasn’t my cup of tea, it was very well written!

True Love is usually the most inconvenient kind
Some home wears were included in this box, and I’m really excited about them! Who woudda thunk you could have fandom tea towels?? Not me! But that is exactly what this The Selection tea towel is. What I’m probably more excited about is the Shatter Me inspired Bamboo reusable coffee cup! This little fella has already made a few trips to my regular cafe on my morning commute. It’s the perfect size for my handbag, built of sturdy stuff and really cute to boot! The cup features some bookish words of wisdom from our boy Warner.
Ignite, my love, Ignite. / I spent my life folded between the pages of books.
And now for the main event! This month’s theme has brought us The Beholder by Anna Bright! This is one that I’ve seen floating around Goodreads and Edelweiss that never really grabbed my attention but after getting my hands on this romantic sea-fairing goodness, I think I’m going to dive right in!
This edition is a hard cover with dusty pink sprayed edges, a special Fairyloot title page and signed by Anna Bright herself. Also included in the box are character portraits from the book. I’m really excited to start this book and maybe even post a review for it but don’t hold your breath.
And that’s all folks! Considering some of the use I’ll get out of some of the times here (Pencil case, notepad, keep cup, tea towel) I think that this box was worth the exorbitant fee it costs to get it here. I am in love with how beautiful this copy of The Beholder is too, and it now has pride of place on my carriage shelf!
This box was a late arrival (Delivered on the 6th of June) and it looks like the next box will be shipped in just 10 days! The theme for the June box is Broody Banter (love it!) and expect to see a full write up for that too. If you’re interested in getting your own FairyLoot box, click here.
Have a great day and happy reading 🙂
